Paul Sobey

Dr. Sobey completed medical school at the University of Alberta in 1986, and fellowship training in Addictions at University Hospitals and Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio in 1999. He received Board Certification from the American Board of Addiction Medicine in 2010 and became a certificant of the Canadian Society of Addiction Medicine in 2012. Dr. Sobey is a Clinical Instructor at the University of British Columbia Faculty of Medicine, Department of Family Practice.

Dr. Sobey has been a CSAM member since 2008, the British Columbia representative to CSAM since 2010, President-Elect from 2013 – 2015, and is the immediate past CSAM President. His practice has been limited to addiction medicine since 1999. He was Lead Physician for the Royal Columbian Hospital Addiction Medicine Service in New Westminster, BC between 2000 and November 2019. He has an active OAT practice in New Westminster and has worked extensively in residential and recovery oriented care. He acts as an Occupational Addiction Medicine consultant to both public and private organizations.

Dr. Sobey was the Regional Divisional Lead for Addictions in Fraser Health Authority from April 2011 to May 2013.  He was on the Member Advisory Committee on Opiate Dependence – College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (CPSBC) from 2002 to 2013 and was Chair of the committee from 2011 until 2013. Dr. Sobey is currently sitting on the following CSAM committee(s): Executive, Conference, and Bylaws and is honoured by the opportunity to act on the 2020 conference committee in Victoria, BC.
