Dr. Matthew Lamont is currently studying for his Doctor of Medicine (MD) at Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador. He previously completed his PhD (Pharmacology) in 2019 and MMed (Neurosciences) in 2013, both at Memorial University as well.

During the programs above, Dr. Lamont’s research focused on substances of abuse; with particular attention to the long-term effects of binge drinking in adolescents. He was also actively involved in teaching students in the pharmacy, nursing, and psychology programs about general pharmacology, drugs of abuse, and the neurobiology of addiction. During these studies, Dr. Lamont was fortunate to also have been awarded one of the prestigious NSERC Alexander Graham Bell Scholarships.

Dr. Lamont is currently working towards implementing various educational initiatives regarding addiction medicine in Newfoundland and Labrador which are targeting undergraduate medical students, practicing family physicians, and other community-based addiction practitioners. He is also the inaugural senior executive editor of the newly founded Memorial University Medical Journal and serves on the Destination Excellent Implementation Steering Team for the Faculty of Medicine at Memorial.
